UNG Continues Its Wily Ways

By -

One unsung (or should that be unsUNG) hero is the natural gas ETF, symbol UNG. Although this year has been tough on chartists, UNG behaves relatively predictably and reliably. I've got a six-figure short position on UNG that I established at $11.91, and it's performing nicely.

Below is the adjusted continuous contract of natural gas itself, which has been in a sustained bear market (no "dot-gov" bounce for this one!). It's never going to $0, obviously, but it doesn't exactly look like it's setting up a base for a bullish run either.

Stormy Weather

By -

Another aspect of my inexplicable personal makeup is a deep and abiding fondness for foul weather (gee, is there a pattern here?)

Perhaps it comes from my Louisiana childhood where, even as a little kid, I would track hurricanes and hope they wound up in my town (umm, OK, there is a pattern here; this is like a form of self-therapy).

In any event, the San Francisco Bay area is about to get hit with a huge October storm, which is really unusual; it's all thanks to a typhoon from the far east. So you can expect me to be more cheerful and friendly than normal, since inclement weather does a lot of good things for me. And the weak market isn't hurting either.
