Today was one of those days that absolutely takes the wind out of my sails. I am not a day trader, I never wanted to be a day trader, and I don’t want to become a day trader. In a market like this, however, where any downtrend seems forbidden from lasting more than an hour or two, it seems the only people prospering are those jumping in and out of the market (and either side) all day long.

The day had been going great, with my portfolio up about 2%, but the bottom was put in 30 minutes after the opening bell, and it spend the rest of the day rocketing higher. By the time all the dust settled, I was down 0.5% on the day. It would have felt a lot less bad if the market had simply zipped higher at the opening bell and just stayed there all day long. I can live with a half a percent loss, but it really sucks to have been up four times that amount and see it all vanish based on……………….nothing.
