It may sound remarkable, but I only just got around to watching Band of Brothers, even though it was produced decades ago. I absolutely loved it, since, at my age, being into World War II is practically required by federal statute.

Having witnessed the show, it got me to thinking about my Uncle Henry, who was a very quiet man who was my mom’s older brother. Here is a photo of them on the tiny farm in Louisiana where they grew up. The ramshackle building behind them was a shed and chicken coop, which I remember fondly since I would go in there and hold baby chickens. I would also explore the woods behind the lot.

I had vaguely remembered my mother talking about the day that Henry came home, which was a shock to everyone there since they didn’t think he made it out of the war alive. Only this morning did I fire up ChatGPT to see if I could find out anything about the man. What I learned was surprising and humbling.

That was just the beginning. I learned how another uncle had dinner with Winston Churchill and was made a Brigadier General in the National Guard after the war. He also fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
{Diatribe I wrote about that swine you worship like a god referring to soldiers and P.O.W.’s as suckers and losers REDACTED, since I’m keeping my pledge to the one or two mentally ill psychopaths here.}
Ummm, hey, Knight family, how come NO ONE EVER TALKED ABOUT THIS STUFF??? I only found out this morning when I asked my siblings, and suddenly I’m getting all this information. Sheesh. The Knights are a way more fascinating crew than I was ever led to believe. I am truly humbled.
