Pure Norm

My love of the late Norm MacDonald has been well-expressed here on Slope. I wanted to share below what I consider the pinnacle. Unfortunately, this is merely the audio, and there are a few portions (particularly when Gilbert is pantomiming sex acts) where the visual helps, but 99% of the wonderfulness is still here. This is a wholly unscripted, off-the-cuff conversation, but if you dissected it, there are hundreds of jokes built into it, rising to a crescendo near the end with poor Adam Eget. I have easily listened to this whole thing twenty times.

Way Above the Norm

It’s been a month since Norm MacDonald died, and I was listening to this lengthy interview with him this morning. I had listened to this interview before, but this time I listened to it differently, because I know now what no one at the time of the interview knew, which was that Norm was dying of cancer. It’s fascinating listening to it, because around the middle of the interview, he speaks warmly of Richard Farnsworth, who died of cancer yet never had told anyone about it. A little later on, Norm mentions off-handedly that maybe something is going on in his life that no one knows about. He didn’t do this in a “I am dropping clues, see if you can figure it out” kind of way. It was so subtle, that there was absolutely no implication. But, hearing it now, it all makes sense.

Norm & Dave

I’ve mentioned my fondness of Norm MacDonald on many occasions, and I was pleased to see that, after yet another hiatus of Norm MacDonald Live, he is back……..and he starts off with a bang, interviewing none other than David Letterman (who himself has made a point of disappearing from the public stage, but making a special exception for his old pal).
