I know you're going to think I'm full of crap, but that actually happened to me once in Montana, close to Ear Mountain. Although Ear Mountain is home to the largest concentration of grizzlies in North America (at least it was then), a buddy and I were chased by a black bear. Fortunately we had clear, open dirt trail and good, solid bikes. Motivation was supplied by the critter. 1/2/18

Was motorcycle riding south in western BC towards Stewart/Hyder. Saw a bear near the road and accelerated past. Saw a bicyclist ahead, slowed and yelled "there's a bear back there". Thought he would take off. Fugging guy turned around and went back. I feared for his life. Saw him in town the next day and told him he scared me, lol. 1/2/18

My brother and I were touring in rural Mass when a really aggressive dog came after us. Trying to get his fangs in our legs. If we had been on decent bikes, no problem, but we were riding touring bikes with 50 pounds of luggage each. Eventually I pulled out my tire pump and the dog immediately turned around, a sure sign he had chased other cyclists before. 1/2/18

I was in Montana camped by a river, a black bear walked into the camp and my Lab went after him, came to end of his 15ft leash. He was a brave dog but don't think he would have won that fight. lol 1/2/18
