Bailian Tops List Of China's Biggest Chain Stores; Walmart, Yum! M...
Bailian Group of Shanghai, whose domestically well-known businesses include the Shanghai Friendship Group and Lianhua Supermarket, led a list of top chain stores in China published by the China Chain Store and Franchise Association earlier this month.
Government-controlled Bailian led the way with sales of 118 billion yuan, or $18.7 billion, in 2011. It was followed in the top 10 by Suning Appliances, whose major shareholder is Chinese billionaire Zhang Guiping, and Gome Appliances, which is controlled by jailed Chinese billionaire Wong Kwong Yu. Rounding out the top 10 were China Resources Vanguard, RT-Mart International, Chonqing General Trading Group, Carrefour China, Yum!, Walmart China, and Wumart Stores.
