Nipping the Problem in the Bud
Here’s another example of California progressivism, but not in the way you might expect. Early in the 20th century, the concept of eugenics was gaining momentum, and state after state passed laws providing for the sterilization of those deemed mentally deficient. California, vanguard that it is, led the way in this gonad-hacking state-supported exercise. By 1940, most of the country was on board!

Proportionate Power
Here’s an interesting diagram of what percentage of a given country’s economy is spent on the military. Ukraine is, for obvious reasons, by far the leader, spending ten times what the U.S. does in the midst of its existential crisis.

Memorial Motion
Man, Moorea makes meandering morning musings more manageable.
As surely you have heard, our fearless leader has back-pedaled for the umpteenth time on what I had been told was his favorite word, tariffs. Whereas we had a delightful, Bear Force One-initiated plunge early on Friday, that entire drop has been undone, and then some, with Trump giving the EU yet even more time – – all the way through the July 9th “ninety day pause” terminus.
It’s kind of challenging trying to trade when a single tweet can upend everything.

Big Beautiful Breakdown
As rumors begin to swirl about travel plans, airline tickets, and market correlations, the market is rather directionless this morning, at least retaining the drop on the /ES from yesterday, even with the big news of the massive wealth transfer from the poor to the rich having been approved by the House led by the nebbish Mike Johnson.
