Be A Lover Not A Fighter

It feels good to be back posting on Tim’s blog again. I will try to throw one or two posts up a week going forward.

Right now we are all on top watch, but even though the taper is in full swing, and POMO is only going to be three days a week in July, the charts sure don’t look like a top to me. Both SPY and QQQ’s went back in buy mode for me this week, so I don’t feel like being a hero trying to catch a reversal, but looking to follow what the market is starting to recognize, and buy; basic materials. Technical Tools Tale (The Beginning)

I decided to share a portion of my background that I thought some readers might find interesting; it’s lengthy, so I’ve broken it into three parts. I’ve also modified the names somewhat, with the exception of my own! So here we go………

The job market in the spring of 1991 was a weak one. The economy was in a recession, and the effects were felt particularly sharply in the Silicon Valley, where the novelty of personal computers had long since faded, and the need for high-tech marketing people – ostensibly my speciality – was modest. American Scripture

It’s corny, I know, but I make a habit of reading the Declaration of Independence every July 4th. Here it is below. I’ll be traveling all day today, so everyone have a safe and happy holiday.

IN CONGRESS, July 4, 1776

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America,

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. “RISK-ON” Theme to Begin Fourth of July Fireworks

Since the lows of 2009, markets have been trending upwards, generally, with a couple of pullbacks in 2010 and 2011.

From the Weekly comparison chart below of the Dow, S&P 500, Nasdaq 100, and Russell 2000 Indices, you can see how much markets have gained, percentage-wise, since those lows. The Nasdaq is in the lead, followed by the Russell, S&P, and the Dow, thanks to the Fed’s monetary policy pertaining to financial price stability, inflation, and unemployment concerns. (more…)
