I was messing around with the economic database in SlopeCharts last night (hey, what else am I supposed to do with my time?) when I stumbled upon this peculiar chart, which looks like a fish skeleton:
Upon glancing at the graph description – – Hobby, Toy, and Game Store Sales – – it instantly made sense. December! Christmas! OK, that explains the spikes. It’s also kind of cool looking at the December points only and seeing how it has gently ebbed and flowed with the economy.
I am curious, however, why last December witnessed such a plunge. Is it because everyone is buying this stuff on AMZN now, and they are not considered part of this group? That’s the best case, although it sure was a sudden, steep drop.
