I guess the post title says it all – – – to explain, XLU has been clobbered lately, but it is tagging its very long-term trendline, just as it did on that fateful day in mid-June which began Bear Hell.

Shoe Dog
Nike is one of those stocks which, like McDonalds and Home Depot, I have tended to utterly avoid. There are among the rapidly-shrinking group that I called “perma-risers”, since they do little but ascend in value year after year. Thus, I don’t look at these charts, which explains why I totally missed this one. As you’ve heard, Nike (NKE) is getting absolutely bombed this morning, but the trendline failure from an entire week ago gave us the heads-up (or would have, I should say).

Edification
For the last day of one of the most insane quarters in financial history, there sure is nothing going on. I was expecting some kind of insane screen of quotes when I woke up, but instead equity futures are basically up 0.25%, and it’s dullsville. (UPDATE: Ummm, I didn’t remember there was a very important economic report coming out, so only moments after I posted this “there’s nothing going on” message, all holy hell broke loose.) One small exception is crude oil, which is showing some signs of bearish life:

If one were a sort of digital paleontologist and could dig into Slope’s origins, there is no doubt that one of the most crucial early parts of Slope’s early, loamy soil was the video below. It helped formed a crucial part of the culture here which persists to this day. It’s delightfully psychotic, and, incredibly, real.
