The mornings are always the toughest.

I’ve got no problem standing here, waiting for the seconds to tick down to some big event, like an FOMC announcement. I’ve got no worries managing these gazillions of positions hour by hour. But, waking up at 4 in the morning, looking into the darkness, I have no idea what I’m going to face. Especially these days. Is there peace? War? Has a nuclear bomb exploded? What’s going to face me when I flick on that very first screen and see what the day is going to be like?

That, then, is the toughest. But by 5 a.m., I tell myself, well, bucko, time to face the music. Get yer ass outta bed, get downstairs, and flick that screen on.

Which Explains the Name

Yesterday evening, in what is probably the longest “premium” post I’ve ever written, I shared this chart with my Gold and Platinum folks to illustrate what I felt was a very strong level of support on the /ES market, in spite of the fact that, as of last night, it seemed the entire financial world was going to collapse.

First, Patience. Now, Faith.

Think back to January 4th for a moment. Probably no other financial instrument better captures the frustrating circumstances of the market than our beloved EFA. What a month earlier was a beautiful head and shoulders pattern had become a distorted monster, roaring higher on almost a daily basis. It was a miserable, faith-testing period for those of us who perceived it as a topping formation.
