Damn. We’re Bullish On Silver Again

Well, this is awkward. Let’s drop the royal “we” for this post. I, David Pinsen, the founder of Portfolio Armor, called silver “The Family Circus of investments” a few days ago. That was an allusion to this scene in the 1999 movie Go where one character explains why he hates the comic strip The Family Circus.

Credo Puts

There is nothing less fashionable these days than being an equity bear. Wearing polyester slacks and a rayon shirt with an enormous collar would be more fashionable. And yet, I persist. Below I offer to you the ten equities against which I own puts. These are not WSB-style short-dated puts. On the contrary, they expire many months from now, and they are all in the money. Thus, in a weird way, this is a conservative portfolio. Here you are:

We’re Bullish On SLV

Let’s get this out of the way, before we’re accused of being silver bears: we’ve been bullish on the iShares Silver Trust ETF (SLV) for months. Each trading day, we rank all the securities in our universe by our estimate of their potential returns over the next six months. We base that on our analysis of their past returns as well as options market sentiment on them. We broke down this analysis for SLV in December (Why-Oh Silver). SLV was one of our top ten names in our most recently completed top names cohort, the July 30th one.
