SlopeFest is This Week!

By -

One of the amazing things about the Slope of Hope community is that, a number of years ago, it actually created its own “meet-up” in the form of SlopeFest. Slopers were so eager to meet one another that they drove or flew from various parts of the country and gathered at various locales around the United States. I’ve been at a few of these, and it’s pretty amazing getting face-time with those that are on Slope so often. I know them by avatar, but in-person is a whole other experience!

One person who has taken on a great leadership role in this is our own beloved Market Sniper, who I am convinced is really twelve people, because there’s no way one guy could do all he does and have had all the experiences he has had. No matter how many people Dutch really is, he’s putting together SlopeFest V. As he mentions, I’m going to try – – – really, really try – – to get out there Saturday night, but my family obligations are rather crushing, so it’s dicey. In any event, let me hand the microphone over to Dutch…………………..

Just a few items for those heading out to Las Vegas in the next day or two. Firstly, our gracious host, Mr. Tim knight has promised to make it on a “best efforts” basis. He is a busy man with family responsibilities. He will make every effort to be there!

Friday, we will be meeting at Deuces at the Aria. They open their doors at 5 pm. If they are booked by a private party, we will meet at Bar Moderna also at the Aria.

Maps with directions to Hagar’s home will be given out in Las Vegas. He will be hosting a party on Saturday from 11 am until around 5 pm. Plan to be there! Car pools will be attempted but taxi cabs are plentiful and inexpensive if pooling as well.

Great news on The Foundation Room! We have their largest room, the Media Room from 6 pm until 10 pm when it has been booked by another party. We are more than welcome to stay longer in the lounge and/or the spacious balcony that affords a spectacular view of the Las Vegas Strip. Dress is casual+. No tennis shoes, flip flops or gangster attire! Mr. K, aka, Ferrari, has given me this menu of foods that can also be ordered with your drinks: Orange Chicken Spring rolls with Sweet Chili Sauce, Beef Satay with soy Sesame Glaze and Chopped Green Salad Greens with Goat Cheese, Spiced Pecans and Aged Balsamic Vinaigrette. Ti access The Foundation Room (a private club atop The Mandalay Bay), go to the main elevator bank. There will be a booth there. Let the person know you are with The Slope of Hope to gain access.

I should be arriving with Vittorio at around 8 am Friday morning at Ballys. Breakfast anyone? Look forward to seeing you there! The original Slopefest post appears below.

SlopefestV!: The time rapidly approaches for the gathering of THE Tribe, Slopers from around the country and even beyond. Now scheduled for May 18 and 19, 2013 in Las Vegas (where else?). Come and meet with old friends and make new ones! Match up avatars and handles with REAL people!! I can guarantee you one thing in this life for certain, you will have a great time! With any luck, our gracious host, Mr. Tim Knight, will also join us. For those of you who have not met him in person, you are in for a treat. Though notoriously reclusive and a home body, perhaps he can be persuaded to get out of Palo Alto and join us for a rollicking good time.

We have the following events and get togethers scheduled. For those who arrive on Friday, May 17, in the early evening, we will be gathering at the Aria at The Deuce Lounge for drinks. IF the Deuce is booked for a private party at the time, we shall meet at Bar Moderno, also at the Aria. On Saturday, May 18, we have two events scheduled. Starting in the late morning, a party at Hagar’s private residence in Summerlin. Directions and particulars will be given out in Las Vegas. After that, in the evening, we will have the main event at The Foundation Room atop the Mandalay Bay.

This is a private club. Good eats and great drinks plus a spectacular view of the Vegas Strip. This event is made possible by Mr. Las Vegas Connection, Mr. K. Also known to us as Ferrari. Sunday, at this point, is an open day. Good for gambling, small group get togethers, and even a late Sunday morning visit to The Sterling Brunch at Ballys, arguably one of the best buffets in Vegas, etc. More on that in Las Vegas! Many of us have already booked rooms at Ballys and an unofficial meeting spot will be the casino bar next to the craps tables! (where else?). In between festivities Nf6, Vittorio and myself will give dice “influencing” our best efforts to help anyone with us make their trip money plus, hopefully, some walking around money at the craps tables! Make every effort to join us! You will not be disappointed!

The SPY Guessing Game.  Simple rules and great prizes. Guess the closing price of the SPY ETF on Friday, May 17, 2013. This is on the SPY, not the S and P itself. If you submit an entry with S and P numbers, I will put in the decimal point. In the event of a tie, the entry received earliest will be declared the winner. The cut off for entries is on Friday, April 1, 2013 at 8 pm EDT. First prize is a 1/10 US gold coin. Second prize will be two US Minted 1 oz silver coins. Third prize will be a handsome selection of Weimar German Not Geld in crisp, uncirculated condition. For those unfamiliar with Weimar Not Geld, here is a link. This contest is open to ALL here on The Slope, be ye contributors, posters or lurkers! IF you have a handle, please include it with your entry. Send your entry to: SlopefestV at gmail dot com!

There will be follow up posts about Slopefest but make your plans now to attend! I look forward to seeing a lot of you there! Below is a map showing main locations at this point in our planning.
