It probably comes as no big surprise that I was a little nervous publishing my Why We Fight post. One of the problems with being really open and honest is that it can make you vulnerable to attack (or at least severe misunderstanding). And even though I crafted my words respectfully, I was concerned that Molecool and ConvictScott might take my post the wrong way, and I was prepared to defend my point-of-view.
Having gone through all the comments now, I can see that, far from taking it badly, they both had intelligent and pithy responses. In particular, this remark from ConvictScott was quite erudite (and I’m afraid he’s got me figured out better than I’ve got me figured out).
I think we all have the opportunity to learn from one another. Fostering open, honest communications is an important property for the environment conducive to this kind of learning. I’m glad that the people on this blog – – and visitors from other blogs – – are, almost without exception, participants in that kind of constructive reasoning.
