I’d like to tell you about an important failure.
In recent weeks, I have been endeavoring to create automatic pattern recognition. This has been attempted by many years by many organizations, most of them vastly better funded than mine, and they’ve all failed. I’ve spent a rather large amount of time on this.
In order to keep my risk low, I decided to start off by using the API of what is purportedly the very best pattern recognition system out there. We integrated it with SlopeCharts, and I started to thumb through the results. Here we have what their system considers to be a Triple Top:

I shall now employ the services of Mr. Blackadder to offer a sweeping review of every pattern I’ve witnessed:
Let’s just say I won’t be pursuing this.
Computers can’t see what I see. It’s comforting, I suppose, to know I still have some utility in the world. But how a business can make a living out of offering “patterns” like those above is beyond me. They aren’t just useless. They’re hazardous. As a courtesy, I won’t mention the name of the organization.
In any event, based on these results, you’ll have to rely on my eyeballs and brain. As will I.
