Kirk Out

It would seem improper to let this day go by without acknowledging my sadness at the murder of Charlie Kirk today, shown here with his lovely bride.

This isn’t about politics. It isn’t about red and blue, or right and left. It’s about the shroud that has settled over this country. As I’ve suggested so many hundreds of times over the years, The Fourth Turning truly is here, and we’re probably a couple or three years from seeing its end.

Mr. Kirk’s horrible death is a symptom of it.

On a scale of 1 to 10, my knowledge of Mr. Kirk’s views, writing, and speeches, is very close to a “1”, but I am aware he held very conservative views. Resident of the Bay Area though I may be, I daresay he and I had far more in common than we did differences: a white Christian husband who fathered two kids and possessed strongly held opinions who had a wife much more attractive than himself – – yep, one and the same.

I like to express my thoughts, as Kirk did (although with a vastly larger audience), and I shudder to think that, if anyone bothered to give me a forum to speak, that I would be at risk of being shot through the throat at 200 yards because someone didn’t like my point of view. Yet that’s the nation where we find ourselves.

I can only feel sadness that this is our era, and that Kirk’s wife and children are now without their husband and father. As this night carries us into yet another anniversary of 9/11 – – which was The Fourth Turning’s genesis – – I’m sure I’ll wake up with the same heaviness I am feeling right now.
