No Right to be Negative Anymore

I have what I think some of you will consider good news (the rest won’t care). A bit of background is needed.

People leave comments on Slope. Others are able to Like and Dislike any comment. Over the years, literally millions of comments and millions of Likes and Dislikes have been offered. And some folks, for God knows what reason, really, really, really like to spend their time Disliking comments.

For most folks, the vast majority of feedback they offer are Likes. I didn’t check, but if I examined my stats, my ratio of the Likes I’ve offered compared to Dislikes is probably 99.9%. Some folks, however, have very different ratios.

For many reasons, I’ve decided to make a change (and paid for the engineering time to make it happen). Henceforth, any user with a Like/Dislike ratio less than 95% can’t leave ANY Dislikes. In other words, if you’re just dying to downvote someone 1 time, you’re going to have to be sweet at least 19 times to get the privilege. Even for trolls, that’s going to be exhausting.

I put a lot of thought into this, and as much as I support free speech, Slope as a community has become weary of a handful of people with nothing to do with their time except click the Dislike button. So, this is now a thing of the past.
