I Am Pollyanna

By -

When I did this post yesterday about Zuck donating virtually his entire fortune to charity, I thought it would be a refreshing “feel good” post on what is normally kind of a grumpy, everything-is-awful kind of blog. I figured people would applaud Zuck’s generosity.

Boy, was I wrong! Almost everyone started playing Doubting Thomas and talking about how it was probably a tax dodge or something. Slopers tend to be a gentle bunch, so it didn’t get too nasty………..nothing like the comments from a similar post over on ZeroHedge; just look at these! (And take note of the upvotes):

…..it goes on………..

………and on…….

These same people probably put $10 in the collection plate at church and think of themselves as heroes.

Look, Zuck had no reason to do what he did. He could just wallow around in his staggering fortune all his life – – maybe buy an aircraft carrier and blow it up, just for the hell of it. There’s almost nothing in this world he couldn’t own.

But, instead, he made a huge public statement, anchored to the birth of, for him, a new generation. I found it touching, and I feel like a Pollyanna compared to some folks out there (and almost ALL the people on ZH) for considering his act a tremendous outpouring of charity.

And as for dodging taxes…………who cares? You know what I say? GOOD! Do you honestly think the United States Government would be a better arbiter of how to allocate his wealth? I don’t. There’s no entity on this planet less capable of logical resource allocation than the federal government. Let him pay 0% taxes for all I care and help out those he chooses. The government can go pound sand. Screw ’em.
