This is off topic – – sort of – – but allow me to say a few words about one of the big newspapers here in Northern California.

Through hard experience, I have learned that (for reasons I simply cannot fathom) they have a penchant for completely exaggerating about the weather. If a very modest drizzle is coming, they pull text out of the book of Revelations. Here, for instance, is a notice I received this morning:

Don’t Let Me Be This Guy

I’ve been doing Slope since 2005, which is approximately 500 years ago. In that time, I’d like to think I have acquired, through brutal experience, a certain amount of humility with respect to the markets. For instance, on the heels of today – – by FAR my best day in years – – what do I feel? Well, pretty much nothing. I’m focused on my first attempt at roasting a duck for my family (which is going well). That’s pretty much where my head SHOULD be at.

There was a time, not that many years ago, that I was more along the lines of this chap, who is sort of a supercharged version of me (more bearish, more followers). Let me give you a little taste of some very recent posts, just from the past few hours.

The Long Goodbye

Over the course of my adult life, I have had seven dogs. Four are no longer with us, but three of them still are. One of them is a bubble-headed purebred cotons, one is a wily trickster we found hiding under a truck in the Mojave desert, and the big black one……..well, she’s my favorite.

Her name is Coda, and those of you who have watched my tastylive program have probably heard her snoring loudly in the background. She’s a love, and a very good girl.
