This is off topic – – sort of – – but allow me to say a few words about one of the big newspapers here in Northern California.
Through hard experience, I have learned that (for reasons I simply cannot fathom) they have a penchant for completely exaggerating about the weather. If a very modest drizzle is coming, they pull text out of the book of Revelations. Here, for instance, is a notice I received this morning:

Take note of the content. There’s a giant storm front pictured. They speak of the storms that are going to be “unleashed” and how “the flood gates are about to open” as well as an “atmospheric river” that “is set to persist for days.”
Sounds like a big deal, right? Should I maybe build an ark or something?
Here’s the actual forecast…………..

Assuming this forecast comes true, which itself is a spurious proposition, the grand total over the course of 5 days is 0.73 inches (or “one Tom Lee“, as we say in financial circles). In more naive times, I took SFGate.com at its word, but honestly, once you get accustomed to a certain media outlet, you learn to handicap it accordingly.
