I feel strongly about movies. I dislike 99% of them, but the 1% I like, I love. One near the very top of the list is Short Cuts, which is from 32 years ago and is not available on streaming anywhere. You’ve got to buy a DVD to watch it, as I am doing at this very moment. I highly recommend it!

This is off topic – – sort of – – but allow me to say a few words about one of the big newspapers here in Northern California.
Through hard experience, I have learned that (for reasons I simply cannot fathom) they have a penchant for completely exaggerating about the weather. If a very modest drizzle is coming, they pull text out of the book of Revelations. Here, for instance, is a notice I received this morning:

When I was a kid, most movies that came out where rated G. Herbie the Lovebug, Freaky Friday, Tom Sawyer, and all that. Looks like this is another reality confined to the dustbin of history. Let’s face it, a movie for kids isn’t complete anymore without a good orgy scene.

Even though there are weeks left in 2024, we’re already seeing the “summing up the year” stuff come out. It’s just like Christmas – – every year, it starts earlier.
