Never Higher
Below is the ratio chart of the XME divided by the GDX. This chart spans decades, and as you can plainly see, it has never, ever been higher. Thus, we are either (a) entering a whole new era in which this ratio chart goes into the stratosphere or (b) it’s an intriguing pairs trade, suggesting shorting XME and going long GDX.

Miners Get Wrecked
The long-suffering precious metals bulls have got it even worse now. Even the descending trendline for the metals miners has been broken.

Melting Metals
In a sea of green, a couple of recent short ideas actually are managing to buck the tide. I’m not sure what it is about metals that is so unappealing these days, but Alcoa and Freeport and, indeed, slip-sliding away.

Miners Reverse Hard
In yesterday’s post, I did a very tiny victory lap based on the pop in GDX and GDXJ, but as I mentioned both in the post and on yesterday’s tastylive show, I didn’t think it would last. Both opened strong this morning, but bang, that was it.
