I vividly remember how hard it was for my dad to make his mortgage payment back in the early 1980s. I didn’t understand why at the time, but let’s face it – – can you IMAGINE if everyone’s mortgage rate these days suddenly was at 18%?


I bought my first house when I was 24 years old. I did so without any help from my parents. It’s not that I was well-paid, either. I started at Apple at $34,000 per year (their top intern salary at the time) and managed to scrape enough together to make it happen.
