It was only yesterday that we introduced Chart-Based Alerts to the SlopeCharts feature set. We are pleased to follow this up with something vastly more complex on our end, which is trendline-based alerts.
Let’s take a real-life example of an ETF I follow, which is the Brazil ETF, symbol EWZ. There is nothing particularly tradeable about this chart, but I believe a break above the horizontal line would be bullish and a break below the ascending trendline would be bearish.
(more…)Late last year, I surveyed Slopers to see what they wanted most on the site. The results were extremely helpful, and far and away the most popular request was to create chart-based alerts in SlopeCharts. I am delighted to report we have made our first baby step in that direction, and it is available to you right now.
Our first chart object that will use this feature is the simplest one, which is the horizontal line. This line is crucial for, naturally, price breaks above a certain level (bullish) or below a certain level (bearish).
Using it could not be simpler. When you right-click on a horizontal line, you will see a new choice called Create Chart Alert:

Just a quick post to you SlopeCharts users out there: this morning, our same-day quote data was completely wacko, and thus created obviously insane charts. We have switched to our backup feed (yes, like Boy Scouts, we are prepared!) so please press F5 on your keyboard when in SlopeCharts to give it a refresh, and you should be right as rain.
Whenever I use SlopeCharts, I always use the Full Screen mode. We have now added a new item to Preferences so that you don’t have to bother choosing the full screen each time. Instead, it’ll simply show up that way the moment you load the program.
