Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, one of the most successful public offerings this year (or indeed of any year) has been Zoom Communications (symbol ZM). It isn’t a household name like Uber or Lyft, but the performance has been quiet steady (following an explosive bid above its public offering price).
The only bring this up because another company – – a tiny outfit whose ticker just so happens to be ZOOM – – has been the unwitting beneficiary, it seems, of the above firm. Because enough feckless nimrods want to buy “Zoom Communications” and blythely put in an order for ZOOM that it has vaulted this once-crumbling stock higher.
I don’t know this for a fact, of course, but I’ve put an arrow at the point with ZM went public. It just seems a little coincidental.
As a coda to this, here’s the opening to one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. If nothing else, it taught me a Boston ZIP code for the rest of my life.
