Black Hawk Down

On Tuesday night, my wife and I watched the first episode of the program Lockerbie, which recounts the horrible terrorist act of Libya which killed 270 innocent people. The episode was graphic and jarring, to say the least. The very next night, of course, only hours ago, we all heard about this:

Besides having the memory of the Lockerbie show in our heads, this was especially unsettling since:

  1. Over the next nine days, we’re going to be on four different aircraft flights;
  2. Most of the occupants of the plane were returning from a juvenile figuring skating event, and besides the fact that adorable children are particularly undeserving victims, our family grew up relatively enmeshed in the world of figuring skating, so it struck a little close to home.

I simply cannot imagine the gut-wrenching agony of the parents who were eagerly awaiting their loved ones at the Reagan airport. As for this:

Yeah, so, J.D., thoughts ‘n’ prayers aren’t going to do a goddamned thing. Neither is hoping for the best. It seems pretty clear that everyone died – – the nearly 70 innocent victims on the America Airlines flight, as well as the trio of genius government employees who thought it would be a great idea to have a black hawk helicopter directly in the flight path above the Potomac.

We live in a very serious world, but these are very un-serious times. It chills me to think of what the 27-year-old bubblehead press secretary (graduate of Saint Anselm College, whose admission rate is 84%) will have to say about this except for more thoughts ‘n’ prayers.

Nice crucifix, Karoline. Is that what your nearly 60-year-old husband found so attractive? Maybe instead he was more provoked by your principal qualifications for White House Press Secretary, which in a sane world would be helmed by someone extraordinarily intelligent, experienced, and measured. She’s going to be an embarrassment, even to the zealots here. Just watch.

Of course, one peek at the knuckle-draggers over at Zerohedge reveals the same tired schtick: either DEI is to blame, or Hillary wanted to kill someone. Those clever barbs lose their luster after the 5,000th time they are used. Everyone was ready to assign blame while they were still plucking corpses out of the icy river.

There truly are no words. This was avoidable, and the consequences are sickening.
