The Power Station

I’ll start with a film clip you need to watch.

Something similar happened to me. See, in my fair city, they are going to shut down power for the whole day two days this month. I wanted to be prepared for this, so I bought an (expensive) Ecoflow system that will power crucial equipment during this downtime so that none of you are denied any of my precious thoughts and verbal morsels.

This has to be tied into a sub-panel, however, and it isn’t something an amateur could (or should) do. I thus had a couple of electricians come out to quote a price for the job.

One fellow came out, looked over the situation closely, and gave me a price quote of – – wait for it – – $34,700. I nodded my head, pretending that was a reasonable thing for me to consider, and I promised I’d get back to him real soon now. In a way, I was the second woman in the clip above, because he probably took a look at the house and figured maybe this dope doesn’t care what he’s spending, so I’ll just quote him something nuts and see if he’ll bite.

The other electrician came out, and I was bracing myself for another nutty quote. Instead, he said he could do the whole thing for $1600. I’ll give you a few minutes to figure out whom I decided to hire.

At this very moment, I am helping them out with labeling and figure out what goes where, so I’m going to get back to the project. All the same, spending about 95% less on the same job is fairly satisfying, considering what a richer and dumber Tim might have accepted.
