Slope of Hope Blog Posts

Slope initially began as a blog, so this is where most of the website’s content resides. Here we have tens of thousands of posts dating back over a decade. Slope’s Virtual Room

Let’s light this candle, shall we?

Look, don’t get your hopes up. This is just an experiment. But it could be fun. The good news is that you don’t need anything special. You don’t need to download anything. You don’t even need a VR rig (although it makes it more fun). All you need is a browser, which I strongly suspect you’ve got, and click here. Once you are there, change the avatar, and for goodness sake, change the name to something meaningful. Hopefully some of you will have a microphone headset so we can talk, but it’s OK if you just float around. Like I said, this is an experiment. Let’s see if one or two of us can bump into each other virtually. Come on in!

VR is Getting Good!

Some of you old-timers here may remember that, years ago, I set up a virtual reality system here in my house. (Well, not exactly; my beloved and way-smarter-than-me son built the computer and put the VR together). It was, for its time, impressive, but wow was it cumbersome. It had a dedicated tower computer, multiple “scanning” devices positioned around the room to track where we were, a bulky headset, two hand controllers, and long, cumbersome wires all over the place. It was the best the world had to offer, and it was a total kludge, besides being very expensive.

Still, we had fun with it. In one of my prouder moments as a father, my daughter recorded herself in a virtual bar, beating the hell out of other patrons.

The Why Axis

Recently I mentioned how my development efforts are going to be focused on quality as opposed to gizmos. I wanted to offer a specific example today, Sunday, one of the seven working days of the week.

For those of you who use SlopeCharts in intraday mode (that is, minute bars), you may have noticed that the x-axis has been, ever since the creation of the product, an embarrassing train wreck:

Spatial Delivery

I don’t know why, but I’ve gone on a tech kick in the past 48 hours. It’s like I’ve turned 17 again (although not the full experience, regrettably), so I’ve been reading, experimenting, and exploring like crazy. I won’t even tell you some of the goofy stuff I’ve been trying, but there is one thing I’d like to try out, oh, I dunno, like on Sunday with whomever here is hip enough to join me. Get a free avatar over at the Spatial site and, more important, drop me a line with your email address so I can invite you. It would be a kick to see how a virtual Slope goes.

Pop-Ups!

One of the most popular new products on Slope lately has been SlopeAlerts, and with good reason. It provides a nearly real-time mechanism for getting notifications about stocks and crypto prices, including chart-based alerts. We have provided three different ways to get notices – – email, SMS text, or Telegram – – and now we’ve added a “bonus” method, which is accessible via this choice in SlopeCharts preferences:
