I confess to being baffled by the strength of Denny’s over the past year or two. That bafflement, combined with the chart, compelled me to short it a few days ago at $10.72.

Gold: Contrary Indicators

It was bad enough that a numbered bullet point, (!) using tout has been lathering the gold “community” lately with an amazing fundamental consideration he calls “the Chindian love trade” (you know, in China they buy gold for love and as their economy grows gold will go way up in price). Never mind that he promoted gold for Indian Weddings and China demand all through the bear market or that as recently as last week he predicted that the US ‘jobs’ number would be huge and gold would sky rocket due to panicked institutional demand in the face of rising inflation.
ES Short
If you have followed our advice on April 24th, you may have had a chance to make some good SHORT profits on the ESM15 Future Contract (see chart below), we had a SHORT level with good odds of reversal (77.30%) at 2112, so a 30-40 points profit on the first wave down was possible (our model also provide the exit point for SHORT trades, making market timing easy).

Silicon Shark Jumps the Shark
Having been involved with high-tech since 1979, and having lived in Palo Alto since 1984, I have some acquaintance with the psyche of the Silicon Valley. It has long been a very imitative place, in spite of its frequent self-praise with respect to innovation and “outside the box” thinking (the phrase itself being quite cliche and, itself, very inside-the-box).

The market is boring my tits off today (which I should probably welcome, all things considered), so I’m working on a “Best Of Slope” post for this afternoon. As for the market – meh – we’re heading to lifetime highs on some indexes, but luckily for me the pain is greatly diminished thanks to good ol’ crude oil and the energy companies. See ya!
