Surprisingly Good

It always seems to be this way………..whenever the market day starts off totally boring and hum-drum is when I have a great day, and whenever things seem awesome and exciting (like early last week), the day sucks out loud.

So, as I was bitching this morning about how boring and dull things were, I left all my screens and went off to make my beloved family some banana nut muffins. I completely ignored the market, focusing instead of making sure the batter was well-aerated, since yesterday morning’s muffins were so dense they could have been used for personal defense.

It seems like a very quiet weekend here on Slope – – maybe people are just exhausted from a brutal Q1 – – so I thought I’d just thumb through a few ETFs with you and share some thoughts.

First up is the Dow Jones Composite, which is an amalgamate of the Industrials, Utilities, and Transportation indexes. We’ve got a small topping pattern on this, and last weeks’ strength simply brought it to the underbelly of resistance. What I’d expect at this point is continuation of weakness, with the big test being that green tinted area below.

The One-Decision Stock

One has to stand back in awe at the performance of Amazon. From what I understand, this company has never actually earned a cent, and yet its two decades as a public company have been a virtually uninterrupted money-making festival. A mere $10,000 investment at its nadir would be worth about $4.5 million today. Kind of suicide-inducing to the 99.999% of folks who didn’t enjoy the ride.
