The Korean won has traded lower twice, in 1997 and 2008. Both moves were explosive. The question for traders is termination or follow through? If it follows through, there’s all manner of short targets because this is not an isolated chart. It has to be seen in concert with charts such as USDJPY, EURUSD, USDCNY and so on. It has to be seen in context with stock charts such as EEM that are at long-term support.

A currency crisis can have several catalysts. A big one would be yuan depreciation. A breakdown in U.S. stocks that triggered more dollar strength might do it. It’s an echo of the 1997 Asian Crisis more than the 2008 financial crisis.

Volume Profile Improved!

I am very pleased to tell you that, even in the midst of an insane traveling schedule, we are rolling out a much-improved Volume Profile study. Specifically, we have expanded the depth of data to include much more comprehensive history. You will now see a new dropdown in the parameters for this study which lets you choose how much volume data you want analyzed: from as little as the most recent trading day all the way to “All”, which constitutes about twenty months of intraday data (which is a lot of information).

Rolling Over

SPX has reached a peak of 9.57% over the 45dma on this run. That’s likely to be the highest reading as the 45dma is now rising significantly every day, and has risen 40 handles this week. We should now see a retracement that reaches at least close to the 45dma, now at 3971, and may go below it. Depending on the time taken to deliver that retracement I’d be leaning towards a target area 4000-50 as a very rough guide.
