Million Dollar Shack
NOTE: This post is now not a post! i had put a video here about the insane valuations of Palo Alto real estate, but for some reason, the video is private (which is peculiar, since it’s actually a documentary with pretty high production values). Anyway, I’m just putting this place-filler in so people aren’t perplexed. Please just head over to the next post.
Triangulation
And now, here I am at the Tejon Pass Supercharger, making my way back up to my beloved Palo Alto. My young daughter is going to have trouble sneaking up on people due to the medals dangling from her neck; she had a great tournament, and she’s certainly an inspiration to me because of her amazing mental toughness. Would that I had such spirit in my trading!
My trading spirit, though, it chagrined to see that, once again, the ES is marching higher, since it seems bad news (more dreadful economic data from China this weekend) is seen as good news (since it means central bank propping-up of equities until the end of all time). The crash of August 24th is a distant, fuzzy memory.
The pattern to watch is the triangle shown above on the intraday ES. If we push above the red line, it’ll embolden the bulls (as if nearly seven years of artificially-supported markets weren’t emboldening enough). It puts the good guys at risk of the ES zooming to 2020 or even, God forbid, 2075 (before failing once more).
The triangle failure, of course, would be a delight for the bears. I have no freakin’ clue how this will go, but I certainly am sure that by Thursday afternoon, it’ll be crystal clear.

Twist Those Dirty Bags!
Greetings from Whole Foods Market in Palo Alto. There are times when I simply have to get away from my home office, since even I have limits as to how many hours I want to stay in the same place. I come to Whole Foods often enough to notice that a fair number of insane people come here. I divide them into (a) insane people without money and (b) insane people with money.
The insane ones without money are the more obvious ones. They are the ones yammering to themselves, or dressed in really peculiar outfits, or otherwise looking semi-homeless. The ones with money require a more discerning eye (or, in my case, a good memory). FLASH update: at this very moment, one of group (b) sat next to me and is having a business meeting on speakerphone. Astonishing. (It’s a very typical conversation: “I’m just trying to keep my day job while trying to raise money for my pet project.”)
