Slope of Hope Blog Posts
Slope initially began as a blog, so this is where most of the website’s content resides. Here we have tens of thousands of posts dating back over a decade. These are listed in reverse chronological order. I guess the post title says it all – – – to explain, XLU has been clobbered lately, but it is tagging its very long-term trendline, just as it did on that fateful day in mid-June which began Bear Hell.

Nike is one of those stocks which, like McDonalds and Home Depot, I have tended to utterly avoid. There are among the rapidly-shrinking group that I called “perma-risers”, since they do little but ascend in value year after year. Thus, I don’t look at these charts, which explains why I totally missed this one. As you’ve heard, Nike (NKE) is getting absolutely bombed this morning, but the trendline failure from an entire week ago gave us the heads-up (or would have, I should say).

I was expecting some kind of insane screen of quotes when I woke up, but instead equity futures are basically up 0.25%, and it’s dullsville. (UPDATE: Ummm, I didn’t remember there was a very important economic report coming out, so only moments after I posted this “there’s nothing going on” message, all holy hell broke loose.)
