The Break Up
One of the values of patterns with charts isn’t just to observe when things are going right, but also to recognize when things are going wrong. I was reminded of this today since Alexion was bought (symbol ALXN). The “heads up” on this was actually weeks ago, when the descending trendline was broken. Here are some good examples of how pattern violation presaged from powerful bullish moves. For bears, the break was a time to get out; for bulls, it was a time to get in.

The Final Frontier
An entire generation of degenerate gamblers has been created this year. Moments ago, I stumbled upon a fellow who put virtually his entire $200,000 account into weekly calls of Virgin Galactic. Call me crazy, but I think buying calls that expire in a week’s time on a space travel company isn’t a great move. Anyway, over the weekend, news came out that its first attempt at space flight was a disaster, thus the stock lost almost a fifth of its value on Monday’s session.

The M2 Catch-Up
Here are up-to-date ratio charts, showing major cash indexes divided by the M2 money supply, which I believe is the only honest representation of equity values. Suffice it to say, they’re all toppy, to say the least.
