They call copper the metal with the Ph.D. in Economics. But these days Doctor Copper is little more than a quack in that regard, taking a cue from the metals whose interplay will be critical to deciding the coming macro for 2020 and the run up to the next US election. California’s enormous utility company, Pacific Gas & Electric (PCG) declared bankruptcy many months ago. What baffled me is that people were falling all over themselves to buy the stock. I couldn’t understand why people would want to own a piece of a company heading to bankruptcy court, probably for years.
I guess I wasn’t quite as naive as I feared. This company is a wreck.
This appeals to my own particular brand of sociopathy. And, hey, we could all use a few minutes break from this market, right?
It seems “trade talk optimism” has unlimited shelf life.(more…)
