A comment cleaner while I have a moment………..the ol’ “Tim travels internationally, so the market falls” rule seems to be working like a charm. I’d also like to emphasize how financials, a crucial component of this more-fragile-than-people-think market, is ready to turn lower.
Greetings from Taipei, Taiwan. I’ve never set foot on this island until now, and frankly, the 13 hour plane flight was much easier than I expected (failed WiFi notwithstanding).
I’m not sure what conveys for you a sad image. Perhaps a puppy dog sitting in a corner, having been freshly scolded for having an accident. Or a child whose favorite toy just broke and is sitting on the curb, weeping. But, for me, the saddest site imaginable is Tim Knight on a 13 hour flight with a WiFi that doesn’t work. It’s just heartbreaking.
And real, too. I was cheerfully online for about 40 minutes, planning to spend my time productively (albeit terribly slowly, given the speed constraints). But, voila, once we got up to the Aleutian Islands, it was bye-bye Internet. I spent the next five hours pathetically checking my infinite ping command (you DOS oldsters will know what I mean). We only came back online minute ago. It was like a drink of ice water after a crawl through the desert.

As I prepare the board for the long leg of my journey, San Francisco to Taipei, I thought I’d updated a couple of overnight markets from my brief Phuket post before. The ES opened slightly higher, but it spent hours grinding down. It was getting a little interesting there for a bit, but as I’m typing this, for whatever reason, it has shaved those losses. It’s down just a few points.
